My group and I collected water from the reservoir and pour it into our container. We then smell and observe the surface of the water. Neither pollutants nor a strong smell could be detected. We also observed that the water is green in colour. This means that there are algae suspended in the water. We tested that the turbidity of the water is 40JTU. Thus, the water is not very murky.
Unfortunately, my group and I discovered that the temperature of the water is 32 Degrees Celsius. This temperature is too high for healthy growth of the living organisms in the reservoir. We also tested for the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, 4ppm. . It means that there is just enough oxygen but insufficient for the organisms in the water. My team and I then proceeded to complete our final task, test the pH. level of the water. The pH. Level’s reading is 8.5 -this is safe for fishes.
That concludes my water testing activity.

What have we learnt ?
Through this Outdoor learning experience, both of us have gained much more knowledge on the Sengkang floating wetland, as well as knowing more about our very own country, Singapore.
We learnt about where the Singapore wetlands are, as well as how the water we use everyday comes about. Also, we have gained a deeper knowledge on one of our national taps, the NEWater. This learning journey allowed us to experience things that we could not experience in class. For example, we get to find out how much dissolved oxygen there is in the water, testing for the pH value of the water, so on and so forth. We also got to know how a wetland works.
